VIP INSHORE QUESTION

Recommended Posts

Hi!

What does the VIP version provide?

I purchased it and I would like to know what the compass on the top of the screen does.  It has green and then red bars, what are they for?

Merci beaucoup!

Image link, the "Insert image from URL" button is not accepting this link to a screenshot, I promise this isn't malware.

Hi,

It is a shift indicator,  green when you're on the favorable edge and red when you're on the wrong edge

Best regards

Pat

Thank you!   So the greater the bars, the greater the shift, should I head up if the bars increase I guess?

Hi Pat, is favorable rather than lift? I.e Green upwind = lifting, Green downwind = heading?

@Cornes1985. Yes, I think that 'green' indicates a favorable heading (upwind & downwind) is a better way of describing how the display functions.  It also appears that the angle of the lay lines are fixed to the mean (top of screen) wind direction.  This means that you can tack before the indicated starboard 'layline'  to lay the mark, if you will be approaching with a green indicator, but have to have to go past the indicated layline to lay the mark, if you will be approaching with a red indicator.
