Hi Juan. On a record race the Foils are most important.  They give up to 4% extra speed in winds above 15 kts. I am almost done with my first run and I have been in Spi sail all the way. So you can be fast without the C0. Of course, FP with all sails and options will always be faster.

If not on FP you can participate in the PDD record race. See this thread:

Because of the covid pandemic, who devastate the country it's not the best choice for a trip !!

Yes, too difficult now. All plans have to wait.

Maybe I should go by boat in a few years. Sixty is the next forty they say, so I have a few more years (hopefully - knock on wood) to get get ready 😃.

I am not a city bird, so I was looking to go West of Fortaleza. Places like Taiba or Jericoacoara would probably be the perfect spot for me.

En écrivant mon message je me suis dit "y en a bien un qui va essayer de deviner mon âge, j'aurais pas dû dire ça" !!! Bingo et dans le mille NestorIvanovitch, j'ai bientôt 60 ans, ch'uis juste au bord !!

    Hi Juan,

Bien venue... I am also new here (my 2nd NAP race) and thought I must be the oldest player. But now  you come in a few years older than me... Don't worry, it's always a good excuse to be a bit slower or when you take an unwanted BBQ.

The city of Fortaleza (and the state Ceara) was always on my list to visit, it has great beaches, but I never made it there and now it's even more difficult to travel. Maybe later when all my hair is white. Anyway, have fun here...

  4. I was also grounded (twice) at buoy 1 after my boat was already well clear in the opening. Went to my boat in Atlantic record and when I returned I saw I was grounded. Whoever designed the buoy so close to the shore deserves a price. It was too difficult to see...

You completely understood what motivates Naps guys to play with. On top of the usual challenges ( which of course become even more challenging playing againts Routed Guys ) , you can acces another dimension by beeing tempted to try " Dumb Test" that once in a while can  work ;) without having a clear vision of your chances of success. This is not for everybody, but some like it a lot

Disclaimer : even if it is in english, this is not a tentative to reopen the Pandora Box for e-fighting with or without Router, but more to digress about the Sand Box offering of VR allowing different type of gameplay to be on the same field.

Second disclaimer: english is not my native language, excuse my errors

    Utha, leading the NAPs team

English is my 4th language, so don't worry. I know French, but my writing it is too bad.

I will be back for other NAP challenges. Depends also on type of race and on how much time I plan to have in the given week.

In the Groupama race I want to see what happens when I combine "intuitive routing -NAP" with an occasional look on a router when I am in doubt. So, I didn't enter NAP for that race.

Hope to see more people in NAP challenge group.

  6. I have to say the NAP is fun in a different way. I am learning some things I wouldn't learn by just relying on a router. For example I decided to go West of Chios, which has cost me a lot of places. But now I am in good winds, so maybe I can catch up a bit. We will see... It is more surprising. Relying on a router is more like putting on a bot and then check in to see where the boat has finished. My aim is to get back in top 1000 now. Good luck to all.

  7. Just signed up. Hope did everything correct. I took light sails and winches for free options, so I put me in as PDD. Never tried to play VR without router, so just hope to have some fun. I suppose following other visible boats and using the small navigation aid the game itself offers is allowed 😉 . Bon chance a tous.

    @Alfredo Messeder:

    autour , adverbe

Correct. Translated into English autour is best described as "in the surroundings of...". So it does not mean one has to go in a circle around the given region or area. In the same way the "Tour" de France cycling is also not going in a circle around France, but crosses through it in all possible directions.

    Dear Sirs

As a competitor in the Beneteau Cup regatta, named ALFMES, I protest against all boats that did not rounded the  islands as indicated by the line that defines the course. I know it is a game, but it is also a regatta and that attitude is not appropriate for a sailor, who must follow the course as indicated in the notice of race. Au programme, une boucle de 500 milles autour des îles d’Ibiza, Maijorque et Minorque au départ et à l'arrivée du Port Ginesta, en Espagne.
    Best regards.
    Alfredo Messeder

    Hi Alfredo,

You are right that on a first time play it is a bit strange (and perhaps looks unfair) to see other boats going through small openings or around small islands and unexpected routes. But as long as you pass all gates it doesn't matter how you get to the gates or how you get away from them. This creates strategic options in the game and chances to catch up (or even win) with an unusual path. For example, the second gate in this race was probably deliberately put on that small island to give two choices: going South or North of Menorca to get to the finish line. Depending on how the wind evolves this can sometimes give boats that are 15 minutes behind the leaders a chance to catch up, because in 15 minutes wind can change to make one option much better than the other. It makes this type of 3 days races more interesting and less predictable.

We have all gone through that learning curve by watching the others 😉

    Have fun.
