  1. With Autosail, and any Light Gennakar Sail Up route/heading planner will not set-course for anything closer than 90 degrees to wind when requiring a heavier sail.

All such headings have 0 knot boat speed. (It app behaves as the there are no other sails available to use, despite them all being there, and having paid for them)
This makes it impossible to navigate to windward if you are  light winds now, but hours ahead requires heavier sails.
The app assumes they do not exist. Hence resultant 0 knot boat speed in future.

This problem has been known for weeks, and in longer offshore races is less of an issue - but can be..

But tight estuaries such as Derwent sailing upwind it is. Or plotting tricky course in light winds.

Such a joke, and total waste of many $$ for full pack. Wasted hours trying to figure this out today.

This product is so buggy and full of weird behaviours I doubt I will pay $$ again.

    • Autosail fails continually - not changing sails - a feature I paid for fails.
    • Cannot plot headings as noted above
    • Connections continually failing
    • Gusts and variations in wind speed are non local effects - changes headings and position multiple NM ahead by multiple NM's.
    • Map scale impacts whether you run aground or not on future course
    • Security flaws in the underlying  development platform on iOS - that are not communicated to users
    • Route sometimes shrinks to 50% (as if all speeds have been halved) on display.

All seems a bit random and un-polished.

Sad. Such a great concept. VR suffering from lack of investment, and development for what should simple fixes.
Instead we get an upgrade that gives different colored labels in 3D view. Yeah.

  2. Paid my $$ for full-pack, and find the boat gets to Hobart in about 2 days.

Traditionally this race has been handicap, with displacement boats, and takes multiple days.

Historically, its been interesting race because it takes multiple days, and there is always a chance a slower, lower handicapped boat will win.

Now with the super-maxi's (the reaching sleds) - its getting less interesting.

    • One reach to turn the corner to Hobart, and possibly a couple  of tacks up the Derwent and done.
    • You can track ahead, get around of the storm system and its all about line-honours, speed rather than sailing.
    • Its now about bragging rights for rich owners, rather that the tradition of the race.

In Virtual Regatta, with the currently equipped boat, its possible to get set a course south, turn NW into the Derwent cross the finish line.

    • You could place well if you are lucky with no more then a dozen mouse clicks
    • 4 course changes - out Sydney heads, south, turn port a bit to head to Tasmania, and up the Derwent to finish. Its like a day sail.

There has been lots of comments on the $$ for the full-pack. And the value for money equation.

    • Considering the $ paid for Vendee Globe - 40+ days and counting and $ for 2-3 days here.

But I think the issue is how much game-play. This race has actually not much in it for anyone interesting in sailing.

    Pity.

I am having more fun in Tara Ocean leg 1 in a slow  boat where I least have to think about weather, routing, strategy.  Vendee Globe gives time for strategies to take shape and evolve. (I am still laughing at those sailors who sneaked through The Falklands)

    Three thoughts

    • slower boats - make the game last longer, so you have to sail, navigate, deal with trials of Bass Strait.
    • handicaps - classes - line honours, but win on handicap too
    • play with the economics more, pay $$$ for faster foiling boat, or $ for slow - with both having a chance to win on handicap.
    • Make handicap honours the main game (thats four)

    Many thanks.

  3. @Pat-Rock Registration to some email domains @yahoo.com still not working for guest accounts.

You still cannot register, cannot enter partner code, cannot purchase anything, cannot build teams, cannot get support.

The yourname@yahoo.com address remains associated with guest account, so you it appears cannot change to a different email domain (eg: gmail.com) after you have started racing without losing all the effort you have put in to current race position.

Pretty poor effort since this problem is now at least 5 days old. I am sure the sponsors, partner will be pissed saddened by this state of affairs.

I raised a trouble ticket for this yesterday - no response.

So far only 1-star experience. (But did manage to gain 150,000 places overnight as a guest with just the default gear).
