We as virtual skippers are free to race. Going West shows more favourable winds and angles. I would not advise to go coast hugging.

It is about taking the fastest route. Best VMG does not always take you in good winds. Read the forecast, analyze it and plot your course. As franckhamburg wrote, there is no manual for that. Play and learn. If you want to use, there are routers but do not blindly follow them.

My advise, don’t hug the coast, go south and take the strong winds to Capetown.
